Koyanguda village is located right next to Lok Biradari Prakalp. It's populated with "Vatankar" community. They are experts in casting work and create various tools for daily usage, grain storage, vegetable storage, decoratives etc. Addiction to liquor created from the flowers of "Mahua" is one of the major problems over here. The addiction rate is almost 100% i.e. both men and women are suffering from this problem.
So, when a request came from the village to excavate a lake to resolve their water problems, the Prakalp decided not only to excavate a lake but also to develop the entire village as "Ideal Village". Gramsabha decided to apply fine on those villagers who drink liquor regularly.
To start with the excavation, an agreement was asked from Gramsabha. It had following commitments.
- No Alcohol
- No Tobacco
- Save Trees
- Educate each child
- No hunting and save wild animals
- Dispute free village
On receipt of the agreement, work started in March 2017. The budget was approximately Rs. 9 lakh. One lakh rupees were collected from the village so they get a sense of ownership. It took around a month for completion.
The lake dimensions are 100 x 50 meters and it's 3 meters deep. A mechanism namely "Waste Wear" has been introduced to take care of excess water in case of heavy rains.
An open well is constructed which is 40 feet deep and 16 feet in diameter. An overhead tank of 25 feet & 50 thousand liters has been built. A solar pump of 5 Horse Power (HP) pulls water from the well & puts it into the tank.
A tap connection is provided in each house. Koyanguda has about 70 houses.
Rs. 7.5 lakhs are spent on overhead water tank. Rs. 9 lakhs are spent on well construction. Same amount is spent on pipeline too.
As a next step to make Koyanguda an ideal village, a sample toilet is being built. If it works successfully, same will be provided to each house.
